Innisfil's Garden Gala set for April 26th
by Michelle Minnoch

Spring is finally here, which means it is almost time for the 5th Annual Garden Gala, hosted by Innisfil's Communities in Bloom (CIB) on April 26th at the Stroud Arena.

"This is our annual fundraiser for the Communities in Bloom," said Donna Orsatti, Gala Chair and CIB member. "We use the money to beatify all corners of Innisfil."

Last year, the Gala raised $14,000, of which $10,000 was donated towards the landscaping of the new Innisfil Recreation Complex. The remaining money that was raised went towards projects members of CIB undertook within the municipality.

Orsatti said the goal this year again is to raise $10,000 and she is confident members of the community will be supporting the annual event.

Local businesses, including corporate sponsors Spring Tree Farms, Lakeview Gardens and Sandycove Acres, will be on-hand, selling everything under the sun so people can buy their gardening goods from local businesses.

With more vendors participating this year, people will not only be able to buys flowers for their garden, they will be able to order everything from top soil to tree's to rental equipment. Master Gardeners will also be at the event, answering all gardening questions and queries.

Community businesses have also donated items for door prizes and a live and silent auction. Following a great tradition, there will be the Celebrity Gardening Challenge. The Challenge, starting at 8pm, will have Councillors Lynn Dollin and Rod Boynton, George Shaparew of Innisfil Hydro, Rev. Howard Courtney from Innisfil Community Church, Mayor Brain Jackson and Patsy Jackson competing for the golden trowel. Last year the Challenge was won by South Simcoe Police Chief Bruce Davis, whose plant included a plastic police car and helicopter.

Orsatti said this annual event is great for the community and our local businesses. "The best way to get your products is from a local grower.

She said it was Mayor Brain Jackson who initiated bringing Communities in Bloom to Innisfil five years ago. She said CIB encourages volunteers to come together to beautify the town we call home, and CIB is always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested in becoming part of Innisfil's Communities in Bloom. You can contact Mona Rea at (705) 436-1571.
