Participate in our community events this year
by Michelle Minnoch

The snow is melting, the air is feeling warmer in the morning, the car doesn't need that scraping and boots are almost (I said almost) being replaced by sandals.

Yes spring, officially arriving last week, is here. Although it is the end of March, we all have to expect a mid-April snowfall. But enough about that, let's focus on what's coming up in the Town of Innisfil.

The Town always has various events and activities throughout the spring and summer, and residents are encouraged to come out and have a good time. These family fun events are here for you to enjoy.

Craft sales and auctions are abundant around various areas of the town in the spring and summer, as well as various suppers held by the churches of our community.

In late April, a fundraising concert for the Innisfil Recreational Complex, featuring David Wilcox is sure to be a good time. Here's hoping we can get more performers to the community. Last year, we were treated to Jeff Healey, April Wine and The Martels.

The date has been set for the Annual Pitch in Day, May 5th. Members of the community lend a hand, cleaning up their surroundings and making our Town shine. The first meeting was already held and preparations are underway to make this Pitch in as successful as previous years. The thank you barbeque at the Churchill Community Centre, cooking provided by the Friends of the Library, is a great treat for residents.

In the end of May, Alcona is having Alcona's Largest Garage Sale in the Crossroads Plaza. Have you reserved your spot yet? I have attended "garage" sales in the Churchill Community Centre parking lot, and there are some great finds out there. Remember, some one else's trash can always be the next persons treasure.

The season would not be complete without the two great events that ring in the sunshine. Summerfest, held at Innisfil Beach Park in June is always a blast! The kiddies can enter into fishing tournaments, families can enjoy the midway, and at the end of the evening, there are always great bands taking to the stage.

The Wing Ding in Cookstown is also has something for everyone. The streets open up and are lined with venders, selling some great food, and wonderful items. I know I will be back to get some more jewellery this year.

If you have never participated in events within the community, start this year. Whether you are pitching in, attending an auction, or buying a trinket or two, events around our community is what makes this a great one.

Get out there to meet new people, make new friends, and contribute to your community that works hard in bringing all these great attractions, fairs and more, for you, and more importantly, for your whole family to enjoy.
