Mixed signals coming from proposed cell tower
by Richard Blanchard

Essa council was receiving differing messages about the proposed location of a cellular tower in Thornton.

Township clerk Carole Trainor told council that she had spoken with Bell Mobility staff earlier in the week and that they seem still determined to place the tower south of Thornton on the east side of Highway 27. "They won't be changing from their original location," she said.

A large number of Thornton residents protested the proposed location at public meeting held on Feb. 28 at Thornton.

The majority of them wanted the tower shifted away from the built up area of Thornton.

Thornton area councillor Rick Newlove said that Bell's comments seemed at variance with information from the federal Ministry of Transportation which has ultimate approval authority for cellular tower location.

"From my talks with them, the tower was going to be moved. I also expected that there would be further input on the tower's location at a future meeting of Innisfil council."
