Youth Noise and News - Phenomenal Women's Night at Nantyr Shores
by Kaitlyn Blair

Strong. Intelligent. Beautiful. Phenomenal. They came in all different sizes, from lots of different backgrounds. Some even came in pajamas - but they all had one thing in common. They all came out in full force to celebrate the phenomenal women at Nantyr Shores last Friday night.

Phenomenal Women's Night was held on March 23, 2007 at Nantyr Shores. Although it was supposed to run before the March break, bad weather put a hamper on the event. Luckily that would not discourage a group of dedicated teachers and students and the event debuted last Friday.

With a fully packed itinerary, good food and exceptional motivational speakers, one hundred women, young and old, gathered in the school for what was to be a memorable night for all.

The night was started on a powerful, but emotional note as two young women with the 'Youthspeak' program told about their lives and experiences. Coming from two completely different walks of life, with two very different stories, everyone in the room could connect with at least a portion of each story. It really made you think about yourself and who you want to become - who you really are. After a few fun games and some questions, it was off the first of two workshops.

Girls got to choose from a variety of fun activities such as healthy cooking, scrapbooking, make-up, yoga and even a class on designing your future!

Next was dinner and the one of a kind raffle. Prizes such a tanning sessions, haircuts, and, makeup where given out to all of the lucky winners.

As the night kept rolling, it was off to workshop two, where again ladies where given the chance to try something new.

What a way to spend a Friday night - with friends, good food, and a group of truly phenomenal women! It just doesn't get much better. After the goody-bags were given out and the goodbyes said, it was time to end our time together, but we will all take a special connection away from this experience.

Congratulations and thanks to all involved in the event - it truly was a fun and memorable night. Hopefully, nights like these will become Triton tradition as we continue to build ourselves and our community piece by piece.

To all you ladies out there - keep your heads up, and keep on smiling - you are all truly phenomenal. As said in the poem that became the inspiration for this very special night, "I'm a woman, Phenomenally, Phenomenal Woman, That's me." (From: Phenomenal Woman - By Maya Angelou).
