Charges laid in mailbox mayhem in Essa

Essa Twp. - Nottawasaga OPP has made an arrest on March 20th and laid charges in this investigation on a 17- year-old Essa Twp. male. He is charged with 13 counts of mischief and is to appear in court in May to answer to the charges.

A rash of mailbox mischief was reported to have occurred on Denny Drive between Murphy Road and the 19th Sideroad of Essa Twp. nearing midnight on March 13 and the early morning hours of March 14.

Several residents were the victims of mischief commonly known as"mailbox baseball". One resident was home on March 14th and heard a loud crashing outside her residence. She and her husband observed a red pick up truck in front with youths who were smashing a mailbox. The complainants followed the truck and obtained a licence plate.

In total, 14 mail boxes were destroyed on Denney Drive, between the 5th Line of Essa and the 20th Sideroad.
