CHURCHILL NEWS Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week for Christians around the world, with Jesus triumphantly riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. As people waved palms and threw their cloaks on the ground before Him, Jesus was welcomed as a King, cheered by those standing on the sidelines. Each year, St. Peter's Anglican church re-enacts Jesus' journey into Jerusalem and this year was no exception. Children were dressed in traditional costumes of the day, as Fajita, the donkey, led the way down the 4th line, to Hwy #11 and then on to the church. This is a tradition that has become well known in the Churchill community and one that will continue for many years to come. All this week there will be services at both St. Peter's (Mon-Wed at 10 a.m.) and also at their sister church, St. John's in Cookstown (Thursday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m.), as Holy Week is celebrated. Everyone is welcome to come out and join in. He says to Adam, "Adam, you are my greatest creation and therefore, I am going to create for you the ultimate companion. She will worship the very ground you walk on, she will long for you and no other, she will be highly intelligent, she will wait on you hand and foot and obey your every command, she will be beautiful, and all it will cost you is an arm and a leg." Thinking for a few moments, Adam replies, "What could I get for a rib?" If you have any news items/events for this column, please contact me at 705-436-9769 or email me at lagerow@rogers.com |
