Another fatality in Bradford on Canal Road
The South Simcoe Police - Traffic and Marine Unit have continued their investigation into the single vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday the 1st of April 2007 on Canal Road in Bradford West Gwillimbury. A 2005 Dodge Neon 4 door silver coloured plunged into the Canal for no apparent reason.

The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours while Traffic R e c o n s t r u c t i o n i s t investigated the scene.

The investigators found that the vehicle was driven westbound into the Canal at an unknown speed. There were no signs that the driver had lost control, tried to brake or take any evasive driving actions. The roadway is straight and flat at this location. This area has no trees or guard rail giving open access into the canal.

There were other unusual circumstances reported by witnesses, police and fire fighters that initially responded to the scene in that the victim made no effort to escape from the vehicle, although conscious and alert. Further to this when the victim was finally extricated from his vehicle, he was found to be sparsely dressed, which was inappropriate for the weather conditions.

Police are currently following up on leads on this persons identity. He is believed to be a 45 year old male from the Toronto area. The victims next of kin has not yet been located. The reason that he was traveling on Canal Road is still unknown. The Toronto Police Service and Peel Regional Police are assisting investigators in this regard.

The South Simcoe Police are currently working in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner in Ontario under the direction of Dr. Robert McKenzie.

The victim was scheduled for a post mortem examination on Monday the 2nd of April at York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill.
