Stars shut out on street in Big Bay Point

Dear editor,

As the sun never used to set on the British Empire, such is West Street in Big Bay Point. Illuminated beyond necessity; the ten street lights recently installed on this relatively short dead end street has blanked out the galaxy of stars from the night sky and unnecessarily consuming precious resources. West Street's near and slightly longer neighbour, 30th side road, boasts half the lights and I would suggest the same amount of safety.

My humble East Street has not yet succumbed to the light pollution. Are we next? An important part of my enjoyment of my property is lying in bed at night with a clear view of the stars.

Big Bay Point has proven it is not for everyone. Over the past several years I've had many neighbours move in and several of those have moved out quickly. Some are disturbed by the quiet, unquieted by the darkness and fearful of two mile turn in the winter.

Let us move towards the inevitable suburbanization of Big Bay Point with more respect to the current lifestyle.
