Firearms discarded in Cookstown
The officer's attention was drawn to a vehicle that was being driven erratically through the Towns side streets. The officer began to follow the car with the intent of catching up to it and pulling it over. It appeared the car was attempting to avoid the officer, at one point cutting directly into the path of a dark blue sport utility vehicle that was being operated on Wellington Street. As the officer was trying to catch the vehicle, he observed the driver throw a bag out the car window, which landed on the street. Instead of escalating the situation on residential streets by initiating a pursuit, the officer decided to stop and investigate what had been thrown from the car. When he opened up the bag, two firearms were discovered inside. Police conducted an extensive search of the area, but the suspect vehicle was not located. Police are looking for an older white Lincoln Continental This particular vehicle is very distinctive because the rear truck is molded around the spare tire (see photo) Police are also hoping to speak to the driver of the dark coloured sport utility vehicle, which was cut off by the Lincoln. The firearms are being sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for expert examination. Anyone with information regarding this occurrence is asked to call South Simcoe Police at 705-436-2141, Crimestoppers at 1-800- 222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip at www.1800222tips.com |
