Speeding while eating

On Tuesday the 3 April, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a South Simcoe Police - Traffic Officer was on patrol and following a Honda Civic westbound on Innisfil Beach Road in the Town of Innisfil. He paced this vehicle and thought it strange that the driver would accelerate up to 111 km/h in an 80 km/h posted zone while police were behind him. The officer locked in the speed on his radar and activated his emergency lights. The violator pulled over in the area of the 10 Side Road. When the officer approached the vehicle he found the driver was eating a bowl of cheerios (cereal) which he held on his lap with spoon still in hand. This vehicle was equipped with a manual transmission and shifter.

When the driver was questioned about his driving and inappropriate eating habits, he replied "Well, I am almost finished".

As a result of this inattentive driving, a 33 year old Innisfil man was issued a Provincial Offences Ticket for Speeding and Careless Driving.

Police wish to advise drivers on the roadways, that you are required by law to have due care and attention at all times while driving your motor vehicle.
