Three couples enjoy road trip Local residents Allen and Rose Kell, Bert and Louise Marling and Harold and Bev Quist had a wonderful driving adventure, which included four weeks inMexico and camping in their RVs. Enroute south they enjoyed Nashville, including a Grand Ole Oprey show, a visit to Graceland and the River Walk in San Antonio,Texas. They entered Mexico at Laredo in the east and traveled t San Miguel de Allende, where the old town was designated as a National Historic monument in 1926. Here they all had a chance to learn of the town's and Mexico's history. South of Guadalajara at Lake Chapala, the largest lake in Mexico, and Ajijic they spent a week and enjoyed seeing the different crops and ways of farming, Mexico culture and art. From there north to Mazatlan to enjoy the Pacific Ocean, the beaches, and then on to El Fuerte to leave the vehicles behind to start a six day toru to the world renown Copper Canyon region. The tour included a 275 km ride up to the Creel, a six hour ride down 6000 to the bottom of one of the many canyons and on to Batopilas for a stay of two nights. They visited the one hundred year old silver mine, which was the second location inMexico to have electricity. The church there was built in 1760 and is still used by the Taramuhara Indians who inhabit the canyon. A swim in the river Batopilas was very refreshing. After an other might in the Creel, they headed west again by train to El Divisidero for a night at the beautiful Mirador Hotel on the side of the canyon wall where the trails of the Indians are very evident below. Back at El Fuerte they spent a few more nights on the ocean at Guayamas before leaving Mexico at Nogales. A two-day visit to the Grand Canyon was enjoyed before heading back to Ontario. |
