Father charged with criminal negligence, failure to provide necessities of life

At approximately 2:15am Sunday April 15, 2007 South Simcoe Police received a 9-1-1 call from a young caller at an Innisfil residence indicating there was a problem at the residence.

Upon police attendance an intoxicated adult male said everything was OK. Police were informed by a crying child there was in fact a problem inside the residence. Upon investigation a 10 year old male victim was found to be suffering serious 2nd degree burns to his legs.

Burns resulted when the adult male, who was responsible for supervision of 3 - 10 year old boys, became intoxicated and went to bed.

The boys were able to, without supervision and adult monitoring, start a fire in the back yard.

The 10 year old victims' pants caught fire resulting in the burn injury.

The adult male attempted to cover up the injury to 9-1-1 call taker and police by saying all was OK. The victim was transported to RVH, Barrie for treatment of his injuries.

The adult male was arrested and charged with Criminal Negligence and Failing to provide Necessities in relation to his failure to properly supervise the minor children.

The victim was not related to the accused but was a friend to the accused's' son.
