Spin 4 Kids this Saturday at Nantyr Shores On April 28th, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Nantyr Shores Secondary School is hosting the 4th annual Spin-4-Kids. Over the past three years this event has raised over $17,000 for the RVH Cancer Care Center, and approximately $68,000 for Nantyr's sports teams and clubs. Spin 4 Kids consists of over 40 riders at a time pedaling for 12 hours, live entertainment, a Hallway of Achievement, silent auction, and plenty of refreshments. (For information on the silent auction call Julie Brittain at 431-5950 ext. 402.) This event is put together mostly by students. They are in charge of getting refreshments on Spin day, advertisements, and organizing in general. This year, students predict there will be about 750 community members of all ages at Nantyr through-out the 12-hour Spin-4-Kids. "This event brings a wonderful combination of spirit and teamwork to our school, family, and community at large. The best part is that all students are able to participate in some way," says Principal Jean Hargreaves. If you want to take part in Spin-4-Kids, just get a team together of friends, family, teammates, co-workers, or club members. Get pledge forms by contacting Wendy Blair at 436-1112 or 812-2779 or Kathy Demers at 431-5950 ext. 511. Collect pledges and come on Spin-day with your team ready for a workout! If you cannot attend on April 28th, but you want to help out, you can make a donation. It is just $50 to sponsor a student rider. If your company wants to make a donation, there are many different possibilities there too. Contact Wendy Blair or Kathy Demers if you have any questions. In 2006, about 25,900 people died, and another 57,200 were diagnosed with cancer in Ontario alone. The Royal Victoria Hospital treats approximately 2,000 Innisfil residents in the cancer center annually. In 2006, Nantyr Shores Secondary School spent $19,000 on buses for sports teams. Add to that the cost of uniforms, equipment, tournaments, repairs of the field and gym time, and in some cases hotels, it is very expensive to make sports possible. These are just some of the few reasons why Spin-4-Kids is such a great cause. So come out on April 28th and join in the fun! |
