Tender awarded for Carson Drain maintenence
by Michelle Minnoch

Town has awarded the tender for the Carson Drain Maintenance to the low bidder, the Eisses Brothers, at a cost of $14,914.52.

Although $65,000 was allotted in the 2006 budget for the work, there was a delay in receiving the required permits for the work. The funds were carried forward to commence work in spring 2007.

According to Staff Report CS-19-07, there are approximately 410 landowners in the drainage area that will be sharing the cost for the maintenance work. The Town has applied to OMAFRA for a grant ($1137.51 for Agricultural Lands based on $30,000 estimate) and is expecting an answer by May 2.

Councilor Lynn Dollin asked George Shaparew, Director of Community Services, if all the assessed landowners in the area had been notified.

He said at this point they were just trying to get then work done.

Mayor Brian Jackson asked if the assessments were complete.

"They have been," Shaparew said.

Councillor Dollin said although this project was miniscule in scale, compared to the South Innisfil Creek Drain, she would like residents effected fully aware of the situation and their pending costs.
