Drug offences on the rise this week Possession of Controlled Substance - Crack Cocaine On Tuesday April 17th at approximately 6:00pm a South Simcoe Police Officer pulled over a vehicle northbound on Yonge Street in the Village of Churchill for Highway Traffic Act infractions. As a result of the vehicle stop the officer located a small amount of Crack Cocaine in the possession of the driver, a 30 year-old Barrie man. He was subsequently charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Possession of Crack Cocaine At approximately 9:00 am Wednesday April 18, 2007 a South Simcoe Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle northbound on the 10th Sideroad approaching Innisfil Beach Road. Occupants of the vehicle were acting suspiciously. The officer stopped the vehicle with 3 occupants in it and found the passengers were attempting to cook crack cocaine in the rear seat of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in finding a small quantity of crack cocaine and marihuana. Charged with various offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act were a 33 year old female from Innisfil, a 21 year old male from Barrie, and a 43 year old male from Keswick. Marijuana Possession On Friday April 20, at approximately 8:13 p.m. police stopped a red Chevrolet on County Road 4 at Innisfil Beach Rd in the Town of Innisfil. As a result of an investigation of the driver, the officer seized 3 grams of suspected cannabis marihuana. A 19 year old Innisfil male was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug. He was released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking with conditions, and will appear in a Bradford court in May to answer to the charge. Possession for Purpose of Trafficking On Friday April 20, at approximately 8:05 p.m. members of the South Simcoe Police Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of the Huronia Combined Forces Drug Unit stopped a black Dodge Charger in the parking lot of a plaza located on Holland Street West in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. While investigating the driver, the officers discovered he was in possession of a approximately 1 ounce of suspect cocaine. The male, a 28 year old Bradford resident, was arrested and taken to the police station where a search revealed that he was in possession of another 1 gram of suspected cocaine. The male was held in custody for a bail hearing. The cocaine has an estimated street value of approximately $5,000.00. |
