Cookstown student headed to Canada-wide Science Fair in N.S.
by Susan Stein

On Wednesday, May 2nd, I had the pleasure to meet with Marshall, a grade 8 student at Cookstown Central Public School

With his project 'H2O to Energy' he was a winner in the Engineering Intermediate Category, at the Simcoe County Regional Science and Technology Fair, held March 3 at Georgian College

The Innovation Award given to him was for his unique demonstration how our daily use of water could be preserved to generate energy in a household.

He got the idea for the project while talking about it around the dinner table with his family. After two months of working on it, Marshall finalized his model to demonstrate to the public how to preserve the bath/shower, dishwashing and laundry water for creating energy. Pipes with a turbine inside are connected under the tub, sink ( not under toilet), dishwasher and laundry washer. The turbine channels the water to generator, which converts it to energy. Energy produced that way would help in our energy consumption from other sources.

With seven other students from Simcoe County, Marshall Quinn with his teacher Sally Telford will travel to Truro, Nova Scotia, to compete at the Canadian Wide Science Fair, held from May 13 - May 20.

The model will be shipped ahead.

Congratulations Marshall and good luck!
