Youth noise and news: Nantyr Shores doesn't miss a beat It has been a very busy couple of weeks at Nantyr Shores Secondary School. With two major events running one right after the other, students were busy, but having a great time. The first event to get things spinning was Nantyr's fourth annual Spin-4-Kids. The event was a huge success with money raised for two great causesextra curricular activities at the school and the Cancer Care Unit being built at Royal Victoria Hospital as students hopped on stationary bikes and spun for twelve hours. The live entertainment and the enthusiasm brought to the event by all involved made the day one to remember. The next exciting event that came to Nantyr was Battle of the Bands and Nantyr Idol - an annual crowd pleaser at the school. This year's event has been called the best yet, and that statement was certainly proven as the week progressed. Audition rounds where held for both bands and idols throughout April. The 3 best idols and the six best bands made it to the exciting semi- finals that where held last Wednesday night. From there, the three best bands - Final Thought, Rockets and Valour advanced, and the three top-ranked idols - Barbara Kehoe, Nicole Baxtrom, and Megan Fulton advanced to the final round which was held on Friday. For the 500 students and teachers in attendance, the sold event was one to behold. All the bands whipped the crowd into a musical frenzy and the idols where awesome! When all was said and done, the teacher and student panel of judges had the difficult decision of placing the finalists. The final results for the idol competition where- 3rd Place - Nicole Baxtrom, 2nd Place - Barbara Kehoe, and the 2007 Nantyr Idol was Megan Fulton. The band competition was also close, but in the end, the results were Final Thought in third, Rockets - second, and Valour, the proud winners. The 2007 Nantyr Shores Battle of the Bands and Idol competition was definitely an exciting one. No one missed a beat and all of the shows where fantastic. A big congratulations goes out to all the bands and idols - you were all amazing! Also, without all the hard work put forth by members of Nantyr's Students¿ Council and teacher support the event wouldn't have been possible so, thank you to all of them. Nantyr Shores never has a dull moment behind it doors. With only two months of school left to go prom, trips, sports, and much more is still waiting just around the corner. For more information on upcoming events or to get involved call the school at 431-5950 and see what is going on at Innisfil's only high school! |
