Timber sales prove healthy for Simcoe County A booming market for woods such as red pine have brought a financial bonus to Simcoe County. County council's Corporate Services committee members learned last week that the County had sold $765,463 worth of timber in the recent round of sales. The county thinks between 500 and 600 hectares of its forests each year to maintain forest health and improve timber values, the areas which are thinned are sold off to the highest bidder. County forester Graeme Davis said, in his report, that the high price for red pine meant that the prices for large diameter red pine had brought in higher prices than were expected during the spring sale. |
