Proposed by-law should repesent Innisfil Dear editor, I was at the meeting Wednesday night at the Stroud arena but was too shy to come forth my opinion. I now can say something in writing to council that I could not express that night. Thank you to the people who came out to voice their opinion whether you are against the proposed bylaw or not. Firstly, this proposed bylaw is not economical. I am sure that Innisfil council is not ignorant enough to put people on unemployment, welfare programs etc in place of earning a living. This bylaw is about appearance only. I understand that council is stating Innisfil's appearance needs improved but I think the wrong substance is being put forward to clear up this situation. Secondly, the council exists to represent us, the Innisfil people. So if we collectively are against the bylaw, then their obligation is to please us without bias. They therefore have to amend the bylaw or reject it as it exists presently if we are against it. They can have a voice, but their obligation is to represent us. Is a school bus for example next to you appear ugly? Some say yes as it is orange, big, and does not blend into the landscape; I agree. But, it is also a symbol of our recognized culture that it sticks out among society portraying safety. It brings us all back to a time when we used to ride the bus to school and think life was good and we had everything ahead of us. It is Canadian. Most countries in the world would love to have what we possess. This is something we should be proud of. Bus drivers do not make a lot of money yet they are in charge of our most precious item(s) for a small time frame. I think we should thank them. Yeah, the bus is not green or tan and does not match our surroundings; It is though , important to parents, drivers on the road, teachers, persons in the community etc. With regards to dump trucks, business trucks or boats, they might seem ugly to some. Who am I to say what is ugly and what is not. Same goes to all Canadians, all Ontarians, all people of Innisfil. Please change the bylaw to represent Innisfil. I do not support the current restrictions put forward. Paul Baker, Stroud |
