Aluminum plant will bring 40 new jobs

On Monday April 23, New Tecumseth Council supported the issuance of a conditional building permit for the aluminum foundry to be located at the southwest corner of Tottenham Road and Industrial Parkway. This will allow the construction of services and foundations to proceed immediately for the foundry plant, which will provide the aluminum for the engine plant currently under construction.

Council members were anxious to obtain additional information respecting this state of the art energy efficient facility that will be the first of its kind in North America and that as reported by Honda will "reduce its environment footprint through a combination of energy efficient initiatives." Detailed information will be presented to Council as part of the site plan approval process.

Councillor Dennis Egan who is the Chair of the Economic Development Advisory Committee said, "I fully support Honda's investment in economic development in the Town and I look forward to receiving additional information about this exciting and innovative project."

The plant will be 9,000 sq. m (97,000 sq. ft.) and create 40 new jobs when it opens at the end of this year in addition to the 340 new jobs being created in the engine plant.

"The Town continues to work in close partnership with the Province and Honda to ensure that the additional investment being made by Honda in our community proceeds in a timely manner while ensuring that all development issues are addressed through the site plan approval process", said Mayor Mike MacEachern.
