LEFROY/BELLE EWART NEWS I'm sure some of you have noticed the Marina sign at the corner of Lefroy and Belle Ewart, across from the Shell station. It says, "Marie Forgot Her Suitcase." I happened to notice this sign right away but didn't clue in who Marie was until her daughter, Lisa, informed me of the situation. My friend, Marie White, left on a month long trip to Florida...well...a month ago because she's already back! However, before she left with several members of her family, she went around making sure that everyone had their suitcase. Lisa tells me that Marie got quite adamant about this, "Does everyone have their suitcase," she asked, over and over again. Marie even went out and bought herself a bright red suitcase so it would be easily identifiable on that luggage corral they have at the airport. Off they all went and everything was fine until Marie realized that all the suitcases were accounted for, all of them, that is, but her bright red one!! It was still sitting at home in Belle Ewart. A quick and hasty phone call to a friend brought the red demon to the airport in time to catch the flight. Of course, Marie will never live this down as someone has immortalized the hysterical event with a sign (which I have taken a picture of) and she also has a friend (me) who thinks nothing of putting the details into a column. Oh yes, welcome home Marie. I can't wait to hear all the details of your holiday. Over the years, this club has managed to raise around $200,000 and this is no small feat for a club that relies on volunteers. As anyone who does volunteer work can attest to the fact that it takes a great deal of dedication and perseverance to make a club like this run. But all this volunteer work takes endless hours of time and time seems to be in great demand these days. It will be sad to see the Lions Club go, but they can go with pride with what they have accomplished over the years. Newfie Dinner Dance: Mark your calendars NOW for a Newfie Dinner and Dance coming to the Lefroy Arena on Saturday, October 20th, 2007. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. and dinner will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 each or $35 per couple. If you've ever been to a Newfie event before, I don't have to tell you what a great time it will be. There will be entertainment and lots of fun. Marie White, one of my Newfie friends, will be glad to know that suitcases are not involved. More information will be coming in future columns. If you want more information, call Emmie at 705-456-6831. Quote: Horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people. W.C.
