CHURCHILL NEWS Do you ever wonder what celebrations occur in the month of June? Did you know these include National Flag Month, Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, Rose Month, Zoo and Aquarium Month, Senior's Month, Father's Day, and Summer Solstice to name a few. Canadian Environment Week is a great time to celebrate our achievements and learn more about the actions we can take for a healthier environment. This year, the Commuter Challenge is from June 3rd to 9th. Celebrate Canada! is an eleven-day celebration which takes place from June 21st to July 1st, when we celebrate Canada Day. National Aboriginal Day on June 21st will kick off the celebrations. We also celebrate Saint-Jean- Baptiste Day on June 24th and an Multiculturalism Day on June 27th. Nothing to do in June? Cost: FREE...Churchill Branch: Thursday, June 21, 4:30- 5:30 p.m. Junior Youth Group: Parish of St. Peter's and St. John's (St. PJ's) hold their weekly meetings at St. Peter's Anglican church in Churchill from 6:30-8:00 p.m. each week. All youth aged 9-13 are welcome to join. Call Pam at 705-735- 3484 for information. Senior Youth Group (ages 13-18) meet every second Sunday at St. John's Anglican church in Cookstown for lunch and bible study at 1:00 p.m. All high school aged youth are welcome to join. Please call Pam at the above number for all information and meeting dates. The Youth Groups are planning an upcoming retreat from June 8-10th, 2007, to Camp Couchiching. All youth aged 9-18 are welcome to attend this fun and faith filled weekend. Fundraising will help to cover the costs, the first is the following announcement. Ask Pam about all the details. The Gilford and District Horticultural Society hold their meetings from March to November each year at the Churchill Community Centre. The meetings are usually held on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and there is often a guest speaker. Friends and guests are most welcome. The next meeting is June 11th when the topic will be an interesting and amusing discussion onHumour & Passion in the Garden by David Hobson and a flower show featuring Roses, Peonies and Irises for which trophies can be won. Come and enjoy ! Euchre: Join Reg at St. Peter's Parish Hall for his weekly euchre game every Wednesday afternoon. Start time is 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Women's Holistic Health Day Workshop: A workshop and display of products and services will be held at the Gilford Community Hall, Sunday, June 3rd - noon to 4:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Kathy Roseborough, who will address health and wellbeing from a body, mind & spirit perspective. Purina Walk for Dog Guides: The Gilford and District Lions Club is hosting the Purina Walk for Dog Guides, a fundraising event that starts at 1:30 p.m. June 3rd, at the Gilford Community Hall. All ages and fitness levels are welcome to attend, with or without a dog. For more information or to register to walk, go to www.purinawalkfor dogguides.com Car Trunk Sale: Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 9th for the car trunk sale from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Churchill Community Centre parking lot. The cost to vendors is $25.00 per car/truck and shoppers get 'free admission'. Also available is a delicious all day BBQ and a silent auction of some amazing articles. What you don't sell, you close the trunk and away you go! Contact Dean Williamson at 456-2202 and book your space early. Cemetery Service will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 6254 Yonge Street, Churchill, on Sunday, June 10th. After service, there will be refreshments in the parish hall. For information, call 705-458-1801. Strawberry Supper: St. Peter's Anglican Church is hosting its annual Strawberry Supper on Thursday, June 21st from 5- 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. More details to follow. For information, call Linda at 436-9769. The St. Peter's choir wishes to thank everyone who came out on Sunday, May 27th to make their musical evening such a success. It was wonderful to see old friends from the community, as well as new friends we made that evening. We hope to do it again in the Fall. Smile: Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles". She wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat. Fifteen minutes later a Nurse's Aid came out and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles". She nodded, wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining room. A half hour later another nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles". The nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor. An hour later the doctor came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, "Shingles". The doctor asked, "Where are they? Bubba said, "Outside on the truck. Where do you want them???!!!"
