No discussion with parents over Alcona Glen Dance Dear editor, Grade 8 graduating class at Alcona Glen Pubilc School I would like to write about my disappointment when finding out that no Graduation celebration or dance will follow the ceremony on June 27th for any of the children graduating from grade 8 at Alcona Glen this year. Although the children have raised money towards the dance, they were informed last week that there will be no dance for them as they do not deserve one. My daughter is one of these children and has a 75% grade average, goes to school and has never been suspended which I'm pretty sure that over 75% of the grade 8 students could say the same. These children have looked forward to this event (the biggest so far in their lives) all year. They have made dates for the night and bought beautiful dresses to wear to a dance, not just to wear to the ceremony that their parents will come to! As a parent I am disgusted at the school making this choice without consulting nor informing the parents, as I have not received a news letter from the school informing me. I think that it is the wrong message to send to the young children that are doing their best and not getting anything in return for their hard work in raising funds. My hope is that you will print this and maybe the school will re-think their decision. Thank you, Lesley Glass Alcona |
