OPP and community concerned about usage of landfill site

Essa Twp. - Following the 2007 Victoria Day weekend, Nottawasaga O.P.P. received information of kids accessing the old County Landfill site at the dead end of Mill St., south of County Road 10, in Angus by means of A.T.V.'s, motor bikes and other vehicles and "partying" to all hours of the evenings, particularly weekends and have been lighting camp fires as well.

The County of Simcoe owns the property and restriction access means including "No Trespass" signs are being discussed as well as necessary enforcement by the O.P.P. once further measures are in place.

However, although trespassing and mischief to private property is a great concern to the police and the public, the safety of our youth hanging out unmonitored at locations such as this, under the influence of alcohol and/ drugs, operating vehicles of any means and lighting of fires as we enter the "dry season", causes a greater concern. We all need to be aware of fire ban advisories.

Nottawasaga O.P.P. wishes to encourage the general public to contact police immediately if any such activity is sighted alike the above at the said location or other private locations where an unauthorized access is suspected to assist police in attempts to prevent a tragedy.

We also wish to encourage parents to discuss with your children the dangers and risks of engaging in such activities especially where alcohol and / or drugs are involved.
