Culvert maintenance responsibility of landowner Dear editor, We recently phoned the Town of Innisfil on Monday, May 28, 2007 to ask if they would come and lower the culverts in our driveway at 410 Limerick Street, as it has come up approximately 6 inches over the winter months and also at our neighbour's driveway at 406 Limerick. We received a call back on May 29th, 2007 saying it was our responsibility to have it lowered. The Town of Innisfil phoned again on May 30, 2007 and said again that it is the responsibility of the property owner to have the culverts lowered. We pay taxes and these culverts are on Town property. These culverts were put in approximately 2 years ago to correct the water flow and run off and currently there is water laying in the ditch, which could cause mosquito nesting and West Nile problems. Because these culverts were put in by the Town and on Town property, we believe that this is the Town's responsibility to correct this situation. We are planning on having our driveway repaved so we would like the Town to have these culverts lowered before we do this as before long our vehicles will be bottoming out on the bump these culverts are causing and also cleaned before the water lying in the ditch becomes a health hazard and problem. It is up to the Town of Innisfil to fix this not us. Paul and Carol Trenholme Churchill |
