Father and son honoured for heroic efforts
Heroes honoured at PSB meeting
In July 2005, Steve Vendraminetto and his son AJ came to the aid of boaters on Lake Simcoe. When the stern light on the boat activated, there was an explosion, and those on board were thrown into lake Simcoe. The quick thinking of Steve and AJ saw the boaters assisted out of the water and onto shore. South Simcoe Police Chief Bruce davis and Police Services Board Chair Marty Toombs presented the pair with Civilian Awards Commendations on Monday evening. Also honoured were Art Janse and Glen Stone with Civilian Awards, and Const. Robert Arnott. Arnott was offduty when he spotted a vehicle submerging in the Canal. He lowered himself into the frigid canal with a rope and tried to open the vehicle. While the person in the vehicle perished, Arnott was commended for his actions.
