The punishment should fit the crime Dear editor, As most local residents are aware, the 400 was closed again for an extended time due to a major accident. The police or firefighters should be directing traffic at the uncontrolled secondary roads which become extremely backed up with hundreds of vehicles waiting at a stop sign unable to move because the traffic on the through road is also very heavy. During one of these backups on Canal Rd. there was a road rage incident that developed into a stabbing. Although that is an extreme response, one can relate to the frustration caused by these excessive delays. There should be contingency plans in place to control traffic at secondary roads in the event of a highway closure to ensure that traffic can at least move slowly in ALL directions. I would also like to add my condolences to the family of David Virgoe, the truck driver killed in Monday's incident. It appears he sacrificed himself to save countless others, and I consider him a true hero. Those street racing punks need to be punished to the full extent of the law, jailed, and should never be allowed to drive again. Ever. Marilu Theriault Innisfil |
