Rec committee almost at fundraising goal

Rec Centre Fundraising Co-chair Heather Macdonald gave council some good news Wednesday night, as they have raised 98% of their goal of $3.5 million.

The original goal of the fundraising campaign was set at $1.25 million, and bumped up to $1.7 million in June 2006. Last October, the goal was increased again to an ambitious $3.5 million.

MacDonald outlined the various committees of the fundraising campaign, the levels of giving and the members on those specific committees.

"I am proud and honoured to have been part of this campaign," she said.

Mayor Brian Jackson remarked he was pretty excited to see they were at 98% of their goal."You should be proud of the entire community - they've done a wonderful job," he said.

Last Friday, an additional $15,000 was raised at the Mayor's Golf Tourney.
