Blue box, composter sales disappoint
By Richard Blanchard

Simcoe County's recent sale of discounted composters and recycling boxes proved a little disappointing.

County councillors at the Corporate Services committee learned last week that, unlike previous sales, neither the composters nor recycling boxes sold out at the events held on June 2 at three locations through the county including Alliston.

Rob McCullough, manager of environmental services, said that "staff had anticipated that the truckload sales event would have resulted in the sale of 3,000 backyard composters and 5,500 recycling boxes. The actual number sold was 1,188 composters and 4,347 recycling boxes."

McCullough said that the sales were not helped when Canada Post failed to deliver flyers to many households on time. He added that the very hot weather on the day of sale did not help either.

The county will place the remaining recycling boxes in its inventory and is discussing with Norseman Plastics to take back the remaining backyard composters.
