Tender awarded for 8th Line drain
by Michelle Minnoch

The tender for the 8th Line drain maintenance has been awarded to Spring Farms at the low bid of $57,801.80 (including GST).

"Every time I hear the word municipal drain it strikes fear in my heart," remarked Councilor Lynn Dollin. She inquired if any affected land owners had been contacted regarding any possible costs associated with the work.

"We plan to write them when the tender is approved," said Director of Community Services, George Shaparew. He said there would only be one large assessment amount and it was due to the large amount of land owned by the particular individual. According to Staff Report CS-40-07, the first stage of the project is to remove all obstructions, and then the drain will be surveyed to determine how much cleaning out is needed.

There will be 1000 land owners assessed for the work. The Staff Report states the highest assessment is $14,715, the lowest $1.59.
