Essa spends $130,000 on improvements for Thornton area

Essa council approved the spending of more than $130,000 on two major items for the township arena in Thornton. Council approved the purchase of a new Olympia Ice Surfacer at a cost of $70,135 and the installation of new dasherboards along the ice surface at a cost of $60,000. Council also gave approval to installing four foot tempered glass on the spectator side of the arena for greater safety of it spectators. It will replace the current glass which is only two feet high. The glass which will be purchased used will cost $2,415, Council approved the purchase of both in its budget.
