Illumination not taken lightly Council received the 2007 capital Streetlight Program, but will look into further after some residential consultation. The town is looking at areas where they will be installing street lights, both in residential areas and at intersections. Deputy Mayor Wauchope remarked that lighting is needed along some of the side roads, including the intersection of Lockhart and the 20th Side Road, but some residential areas are not in favour of illumination. Mayor Brian Jackson said they should march in concurrence with the residents. "We have to move forward, but involve the public." Councilor Lynn Dollin agreed, stating some residents have lived on their streets for 30 plus years, and have never had illumination, and don't want to see it. "You have to have some regard as to what the people want," she said. Councilor Rod Boynton said some people in the community like the fact they have little to no illumination on their streets, and like the darkness at night and enjoy looking up and actually seeing the stars. "I think the town id doing due diligence, but if we don't spend the money, then we save the money." The deputy mayor said he agreed, but some areas do need to be light up for safety standards. |
