Hip is king at the Thread Shed in Alcona
by Michelle Minnoch

Buying the latest clothes may not always be easy, as usually a trip out of town is warranted. Now that the Thread Shed has opened, teens looking for the hottest clothes may not be such a bother.

The Thread Shed is the brain child of 15 year old Lee Wood. His parents, Sue and Ron Wood, formally of the Belle Ewart area, bought a house on Edgar Street and opened up the Thread Shed out of the front of their home.

"We were ready to go by May but opened on June 14th," said Sue Wood. "This is all my son's doing, we're just here to help him out."

Sue said there is no where for the kids to go, let alone shop, in Innisfil and the Thread Shed provides a destination for kids who need a new shirt of pair of sneakers.

Selling skateboarder lines such as Vans, Circa, Dragon, Levitate, Avirex and more, the Thread Shed is the king of cool when it comes to selling clothes, shoes, sunglasses and hats.

"We're hoping to have in some snowboarding gear, including pants and jackets, before the winter," Sue said.

Sue said when the kids come in and find an item they like it can be put aside for two weeks.

"I know these kids who have jobs are working and can only put down a little bit of money one week, a little bit another," Sue said.

Sue said one of the advantages of shopping at the Thread Shed is the products are not overly priced. "We're keeping the prices down so kids can afford to buy what they want."

Selling a few of each item and a size in every shoe for sale, she said they are trying to keep the items unique for the kids.

With a few local students working at the store, Sue said they are always asking their customers what they want in stock, and what they think would be a good investment for the Thread Shed.

The Thread Shed is located at 1036 Edgar Street in Alcona and you can reach them at (705) 431-SHED.

They are open seven days a week from 9:30am to 8pm from Mondays to Wednesdays, 9:30am to 6pm on Thursdays and Fridays, 9am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am until 6pm on Sundays.
