Essa moves on new township library Essa council has given its approval to the construction of a new library in Angus at a cost of almost $1.8 million. Council selected the least expensive of the three options Wednesday night which would see a new 10,000 square foot building built adjacent to the township arena. It would replace the existing King St.location which was built in 1967. Councillor Rick Newlove said initially that he would have liked to see council have further information on funding the new building. "I do support a new library for Angus but I would like to see more background financial information. How much is going to come from taxes, grants and development charges?" he asked. But both mayor Dave Guergis and councillor Sandie Macdonald said that council should move ahead to allow the planning and fundraising aspects of the project to begin. "If we commit to a size, then we can start looking for grants and fundraising," said Guergis. "The project is definitely possible. We know that we can do it." Council eventually decided to move ahead on the project. |
