Two officers treated for smoke inhalation

On Thursday July 12, at approximately 7:45p.m. South Simcoe Police responded to a downtown store on Holland St West in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury regarding smoke coming out the windows of an apartment above the store. The fire initially appeared to be suspicious in nature as the tenants were in the process of moving out and no one was found at the apartment.

The investigation is continuing although it appears that the fire may have been accidentally started. Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire attended and were able to extinguish the fire which caused minor damage. Two South Simcoe police officers suffered smoke inhalation while alerting neighbouring residents in the building.

The officers were transported by ambulance to Southlake Regional Health Care Centre for treatment and observation. Both officers have been released from hospital.
