School volunteers must have criminal checks

The Simcoe County District School Board has approved revisions to its volunteer policy requiring effective Sept. 1, all new volunteers be required to provide an original copy of a Criminal Records Check which includes a Vulnerable Sector Screening executed within the last six months, prior to beginning to volunteer.

That the Board approve that current volunteers be required to provide an original copy of a Criminal Records Check which includes a Vulnerable Sector Screening executed within the last six months, by Dec. 31.

That the Board approve that the cost of the Criminal Records Check is the responsibility of the volunteer with an option for reimbursement if requested by the volunteer.

That the Board approve that volunteers complete an Office Declaration annually after providing the original Criminal Records Check.
