Teachers learn how to engage Grade 3 students "How do I fit it all in?" is a question asked by many Grade 3 teachers who must contend with today's ever-expanding curriculum. A summer course offered by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Simcoe County Teacher Local will demonstrate how these teachers can uncover the basics of engaging the third grade learner by establishing a child-centred and curriculum focused classroom. The course is one of a broad range of professional development opportunities offered this summer by ETFO in partnership with its locals across the province and made possible in part by funding from the Ministry of Education. Courses are planned and taught by ETFO members and designed to provide teachers with practical skills and resources to use in their classrooms. More than 2,000 elementary teachers are expected to take part in the courses across the province over the next eight weeks. Available courses include Summer Arts Academy courses, an Aboriginal Education Summer Academy, a women's leadership institute, a body image course, Principal's Qualification Program, and credit courses. |
