Opposition to Big Bay Point Resort Dear editor, There has been opposition to the Big Bay Point Resort from the very start, and some times it takes a little longer for the people who really care about our Lake to get hot under the collar and start joining groups to complain. Most of us figure that the people we elected will look after these important things. But we do figure out who will actually stand up and speak for us, and who just sits there and does nothing or very little. The project will not take 1,600 homes off septic tanks - UNLESS Innisfil Township extends the sewer lines into Big Bay Point proper, and that will increase our property taxes immensely, and cost each household from $4,000.00 to $15,000.00 or more to hook up to the lines. The resort was approved because they had to pay for the sewer lines into the resort, as I understand it. The resort was scaled down because of the opposition to such a large project by the people who enjoy our country life style here. We also enjoy the wildlife that live here as well, deer, possum, turtles, rare birds, trees that are hundreds of years old. The noise of construction will certainly drive them away. People that come to the country for a week or so, love to see the wildlife, because that is country living, and a selling point for the vacationers. But as Mr. Rumm "self-styled" Friend of Lake Simcoe in his ads, we felt that he would see this himself. The full page ad in all the local papers a few weeks ago showed a large bay with 3 or 4 islands and 3 or more houses on each island, with boat slips. This was never in the original plans!! All the digging that this would require - How much damage would this do to the fish spawning grounds? A thousand boats that may have motors running on gas and oil that dribbles into the water will further pollute and help push the lake over the edge. The lake is improving but this won't help it at all.
The way I see it. Queenie Little Big Bay Point Resident |
