TOPS will be selling drinks and treats and the Thornton firefighters will be selling memorabilia commemorating their 50th Anniversary. Essa Parks & Recreation will be providing fun activities for the kids. See you there! TOPS (Taking off Pounds Sensibly) will be holding a fund raising raffle at the Corn Roast for a 1 hour consultation with Denise Lianski of Interiors Alive. Denise is an interior designer and will help you make your home beautiful. Tickets are being sold for $2.00 each or 3/$5.00 and the prize is valued at $75. The Thornton Area Action committee is looking for more members. This committee is made up of area residents and they work on community projects to improve Thornton and area. It was originally formed to build our library and was recently involved in the new addition. The TAAC committee made a donation to the building fund and the members spent many hours at the library cleaning, moving books and furniture and donated four comfortable chairs to enjoy while browsing through books. They also support other community groups and members when the need arises. The Action Committee usually holds three community events a year, this week's Community Corn Roast, Light Up Night the first Sunday in December and a Valentine's Dance. These events are planned to encourage the members of our community to get out and know each other; and to have a good time while doing it. To support the work of the Thornton Area Action Committee break away tickets are sold at Paul & Joe's store and are their only means of fund raising. So next time you're in, buy a couple tickets and maybe you'll win the big prize. If you are interested in joining the TAAC Committee you can call me at 458-0869 or introduce yourself to any of the committee members at the Corn Roast on Sunday. Need something to do with the whole family and it's free? Why not participate in the Good For Life & Essa Public Library's Family Fun Night and enjoy an evening of activities with your family? On Wednesday, August 22 from 6:30 until 7:30 join other Thornton families and join in the fun activities, for good family fun. There will be prize bags awarded to every participating family & one grand prize of a supermarket gift certificate (intended for use to purchase "healthy" food choices). Registration is not required. So, bring the family to the library for some active fun & exercise. The latest list of prepublication book selections is now at the library. You can sign up to read any of the new arrivals that will interest you and when your name comes up on the list, they give you a call to come pick it up. What could be more handy? Ask at the circulation desk to see the book or find it on their website at www.essa. library.on.ca If you have any news, announcements, or coming events, you can email me at thorntonnews@rogers.com or call me at (705) 458-0869 or drop it off at 25 Robert Street.
