LEFROY/BELLE EWART NEWS
by Linda Gerow

What a beautiful weekend we had! There was no shortage of festivals and events around the community and Barrie. Kempenfest, always enjoyable, was bustling with hundreds of vendors and fun things to do. The Cookstown Steam Show was a roaring success. What fun to see steam engines from long ago. Or maybe you just wanted to sit on your deck with a cool drink with friends or go for a swim at the local beach. However you spent this past weekend, I hope it was a good one.

Innisfil Pipes and Drums: Practice takes place at the Belle Ewart Legion Branch 547 every Monday at 7 p.m. New members are always welcome. Contact Ken at 705-456- 3717 for information. Over the years, many people have been taught how to play...why not come out and see what it's all about. Visit their website atwww.innisfilpipesanddrums.ca

Steak BBQ: Gilford United Church is hosting a steak BBQ with baked potato, corn on the cob and homemade pie on Saturday, August 18th.

The cost is $16 and the dinner runs from 5-8 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Annual Lefroy United Church Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 8th at the Inniscreek Golf Club (400 & 89, beside KOA). The cost is $85 which includes golf, cart and steak dinner. There will be lots of prizes and for those of you who do no golf, just come out for the dinner for $30. Newfoundland Dinner/Dance: Mark your calendars for October 20th, when there will be a Newfie Dinner/Dance at the South Simcoe Community Centre, formerly known as Lefroy Arena. Emmie has been working hard on the preparations and has told me that all tickets will be $15 which will be available in September. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and a buffet dinner will follow at 7:30 p.m. Entertainment is live music along with Newfoundland skits during the desserts. There will be only one door prize....but a good one!!! The fun will end at 1 p.m.

We advise that this is for adults only. Further updates will become available to me when Emmie and Fred return from the rock!!
