CHURCHILL NEWS Some of you may wonder why I always lead my column with the news from our local branch of the Innisfil Public Library. I've been a librarian now for over twenty-five years and so what goes on in our local branches is near and dear to me. Recently, I read an article published in the Toronto Star on August 6th titled, "Library cuts are shortsighted solution" written by Lorraine Sommerfield. It's been a long time since I've read an article about library cuts that hit the nail on the head. My favourite quote is.."It's great that we buy books for our children, but at a library, they can go free range and peck at what they want. You don't have to be wealthy to deliver to your child a lifetime of riches; take them to the library." I wrote and thanked Lorraine for this article. If you get a chance to read it, please do. It can be accessed via the Internet at www.thestar.com. Just type in the article's title and it will pop up. You'll be glad you did. Along with his lovely wife, Anna, Mike has been a large part of our Parish for the past few months and we are all going to miss him. We wish him well at Wycliffe College as he prepares to become an Anglican priest. Please keep in touch, Mike. We're all going to miss you. Smile: Off the seventh tee, Joe sliced his shot deep into a wooded ravine. He took his eight iron and clambered down the embankment in search of his lost ball. After many long minutes of hacking at the underbrush, he spotted something glistening in the leaves. As he drew nearer, he discovered that it was an eight iron in hands of a skeleton! Joe immediately called out to his friend, "Jack, I've got trouble down here!" "What's the matter?" Jack asked from the edge of the ravine. "Bring me my wedge," Joe shouted. "You can't get out of here with an eight iron!" If you have any news/items for this column, please contact me at lagerow@rogers.com or 705-436-9769. |
