Immediate need for blood donors as 'road' season begins As summer holidays start, so does the need for blood when treating trauma patients August, 2007 - The time most Canadians have been waiting for - summer - has arrived. With summer, comes an increase in road, highway and waterway traffic, which can raise the number of traumas, where patients will need the support of blood and blood products to survive. "Thousands of people will be venturing out on our region's many highways and waterways this Summer. Unfortunately, every year trauma team's in all of our 57 hospitals must care for patients that have been seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents or boating mishaps," says Canadian Blood Services, Regional Director, Renee Naiman.
