Crime of the week - Vandalism in Barrie Crime Stoppers of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka and the Barrie Police Service are seeking the assistance of the public in helping to solve several occurrences of mischief and vandalism in the City of Barrie over the past months. Unknown persons have spray painted several buildings including schools, stores, private residences and hydro boxes and have now set fire to playground equipment. On August 11th, 2007, unknown persons set fire to playground equipment at a park along Marcellus Drive in Barrie's south end. Setting fires pose a danger to everyone in the community. The playgrounds are created for the use of all members of the community and are at times a gathering point for family and friends to enjoy the changing seasons. The damage done by this vandalism will cost the city many thousands of dollars to repair and/or replace the equipment. The persons responsible for this vandalism and mischief need to be reminded that this is a criminal offence and when caught will be charged accordingly If you have any information that will identify the culprits in these incidents and wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to call display. Being anonymous, you will not testify in court. Your information may lead to a cash reward of up to $2,000. |
