CHURCHILL NEWS Library News: Churchill Branch: 2282 4th Line, Churchill, (705) 456-2671 The Churchill Branch will not be running the September preschool programs and other after school programs until further notice. There will be some other programs scheduled, please see below. SUMMER MOVIES @ the Churchill Branch library: All tickets are $2/refreshments are $1: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (PG): The Fantastic Four learn that they aren't the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the powerful Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus. Saturday, Sept. 8, 1 p.m. Surf's Up (G) A behindthe scenes look at the annual Penguin World Surfing Championship, and its newest participant, up-andcomer Cody Maverick: Saturday, Sept. 22, 1 p.m. SURPRISE PARTY! Come party at the library and enjoy games and surprises. Registration begins Tuesday, Sept. 18, 10 p.m. in person or by phone. Ages: 6-12: Cost: $2; Churchill Branch: Wednesday, Sept. 26, 4:30- 5:30 p.m. Junior and Senior Youth Groups: The Parish of St. Peter's and St. John's (St. PJ's) youth group and the Senior youth group, will be back in September with regular meetings. Summer Services: Churchill United Church is holding summer services at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 26th. For further information contact the church or Rev. Glen Eagle at 705-456-1714. BBQ and Corn Roast: Churchill United Church is hosting its annual BBQ and corn roast on Saturday, Aug. 26th from 5-7:30 p.m. There is also going to be a rummage sale. The cost is $5 per person. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Gilford and District Horticultural Society: The Fall Flower & Vegetable Show this year will be held at The Grange Hall in Lefroy on Sept. 8. Entries from 10- 11:15 a.m. Judging from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. The Fall Annual Auction Night at the next general meeting of the GDHS will be at 7.30 p.m. on Sept. 10th at the Churchill Community Centre, Yonge St. This is always a great event to participate in. All kinds of useful items and bounty from our gardens, garden items, perennials (potted & named please (if you are contributing), preserves, home baking etc. Please come and join us with your friends and neighbours for this fun-filled bargain night. Euchre: Join Reg at St. Peter's Parish Hall for his weekly euchre game every Wednesday afternoon. Start time is 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Come on out and join in the fun and fellowship. Call Reg at 705- 456-6801 for all information. All proceeds go to the St. Peter's building fund. The Parish of Churchill and Cookstown bid a bittersweet farewell to its summer intern Mike Caines and his wife Anna on Aug. 19th. Mike has been with the parish for three months and is returning to Wycliffe College to continue his studies on his journey to becoming an Anglican priest. The entire parish wishes Mike and Anna well on their chosen paths and there is an open invitation for them to return at anytime for a visit.
