Canadian Tour's best headed for season-ending event at National Pines The cream of the Canadian Tour crop are headed to Innisfil as the Tour closes out its 2007 schedule with the Canadian Tour Championship. An international field of 156 players representing more than ten countries will face a challenging National Pines Golf Club in the $200,000 season finale from Aug. 27th to Sept. 2nd. Volunteers and caddies are still required for the Canadian Tour Championship. Walking scorers will have a chance to get inside the ropes with some of the best young golf talent in the world as they take their cuts in the showcase event of 2007. Volunteers will receive an official Canadian Tour Championship golf shirt and hat, will have lunch provided daily and will be guests at a Volunteer Appreciation Party at the conclusion of play on Sun., Sept. 2nd. Caddies will be paid a minimum $35 per round. The Dominion of Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Tour, has committed that $100,000 of the event proceeds will go towards the Canadian Paraplegic Association Ontario (CPA Ontario), marking the second straight year CPA Ontario has benefited from the Canadian Tour Championship. Canadian owned and operated, The Dominion has been serving Canadians since 1887, when Sir John A. Macdonald became the company's first president. Early during tournament week, the RVH Corporate Challenge pro am, which has been held every year since 2001, will benefit the Royal Victoria Hospital's cancer centre in Barrie. All gate receipts from the Canadian Tour Championship will also go to the RVH. Defending champion Stuart Anderson will look to make it two straight at the Canadian Tour Championship. Heading into the Desjardins Montreal Open in mid-August, four Canadians had won in 2007, the first time that has happened since 1996. Wes Heffernan, with a pair of triumphs, James Lepp, Dustin Risdon and Mike Mezei are Canadians with tournament victories this season. Spencer Levin, a twotime winner in his 2007 rookie season, leads the Rolex Order of Merit with three events left in the season and is coming off appearances in both the British Open and Canadian Open. Tickets are $10 and a four-day pass can be bought for $25. Tickets are available at the RVH Gift Shop, and National Pines GC. Official World Golf Ranking points are awarded to the top six finishers. |
