Personal Glimpses

Congratulations to Emily Cooper and Graham Shrie, whose wedding took place on Saturday, August 25th.

Emily, the daughter of John and Darlene Cooper of Cookstown and Graham were united in marriage by Rev. Thelma Arnott at the Inn at the Falls in Bracebridge. Attending the bride was bridesmaid Louise Owen and Graham's Groomsman was Noel Quinn.

Among the special guests attending the wedding were the bride's grandmother Grace Cooper and uncle and aunt Jim and Heather of Cookstown.

The reception was held at the Inn at the Falls. Emily and Graham will reside in Edmonton, Alberta.

Birth

Congratulations to Aaron and Jennifer Kell of Angus on the birth of Aislynn Allis on Saturday, August 25th, at RVH in Barrie.

Aislynn, weighing 6 lb. 13 oz , 18 inches long, is the sister to 15 months old Aaliyah. Her happy grandparents are Allan and Rose Kell of Cookstown and Glen and Coleen Bradstock of Norland.

Nice to report that Mrs.Cole, Ellen Kent's mother , is at home recovering well from recent surgery.

Owen update

Nine year old Owen Robinson, grandson of Gerry and Sally Robinson, has successfully completed his eight week rehab session at Bloorview Centre in Toronto. Owen, who was injured in the accident close to Cookstown Central School, is doing really well and will be back in school September 4th.

Retired

After 28 years of teaching shop at Stoufville Secondary School, Wally Currie has retired.

All the best Wally and May the good Lord bless you with happy and healthy years of well deserved leisure years.

At St. John's Anglican Church

The congregation held an outdoor service and picnic at Ross's Pond on Sunday, August 19th.

The congregation bid goodbye to Michael and Ann Caine. Michael was St John's student minister over the summer months and will now resume his studies at Wycliff College.

Fish supper

September 7th, the annual Fish Supper will be held at St. John's Anglican Church with whole fresh salmon on the BBQ and probably some entertainment.

Tickets: $12.00, children under 12 $6.00 and preschool free.

Family reunion

Jean Wallace of Cookstown attended the annual Moir Family reunion, held Sunday, August 19, at the Rayton Cottage on Lake Couchiching.

Family members attended from Orangeville, Sundridge, Bracebridge, Severn Bridge, Midland, Oro Station, Rama, Barrie and Cookstown. Sean Rayton returned from Grand Cache, Alberta, just in time to attend.

A delicious BBQ with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all.

Peach Supper

The Peach Supper, held at the Tec We Gwill Hall, Newton Robinson on Friday, Aug. 24 was a huge success, with about 250 enjoying the delicious meal.

My compliments to the hardworking, efficient members of the Tec We Gwill W.I., who made this fundraising project such a success.

The proof - only one slice of pie left.

On a personal note

Councillor Lynn Dollin and myself appeared on Rogers TV Cable on Friday, August 17.

The occasion was the interview by Brian Davis - Rogers' station video photographer and the presentation of a Certificate to me as a "Hometown Hero".

I heard through the grapevine, that it was Mayor Brian Jackson, who submitted my name. Thank you Brian! You make me proud and glad to be able to contribute to our Town.

Be ready fro School! Let us help you with a backpack full of stuff to start you off your school year. There will be one lucky winner per branch.
