Read the signs before hitting the water Although there are postings regarding water safety at Crescent Harbour and Leonard's Beach, Jerry Capko of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) says it is not unusual. Water samples are taken weekly from five of Innisfil's beaches. Kathy Dermot of the SMDHU said if the bacteria levels are elevated, then the signs will go up. "When you see these number's come up, it could be because of a rain storm, high waves or high wind activity," Capko said. He stated bacteria in the water can get turned up, and if found in the samples, a warning will be posted until another sample is taken and the all clear is given. "If you can't see your feet, then you shouldn't be swimming in it," Capko said. Residents should check for any new postings when going to the beach. |
