Comment Over the past week I have been making my rounds throughout the community, saying my final farewells to the many people I have met over the two years I have been at The Scope. And if there is anything the Town of Innisfil has taught me in the past few years is that this is a strong, committed, hard working community one that I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of. My experiences in this community have helped and strengthened my work ethic. As this was my first time writing for a newspaper, I can honestly say that without a doubt, my experience here has refueled my passion for writing and my admiration for a strong community. The strength of character in this community is ever present and, as an outsider who was welcomed with open arms, I have learned so much - and for that I thank you. I will miss the many friends I have made over the last little while. Some of you are etched in my brain, and when I think of this Town, my thoughts will definitely turn to the people who make it. While I have enjoyed bringing the news to you as impartial as I could, it was the various events throughout the community I loved diving into; a non-gardener taking part in the Celebrity Gardening Challenge (I believe it was the Kell's who bought my disaster creation - thanks for saving my plants!), a judge for various parades and contests, Summer and Winterfest activities. I always thought the Remembrance Day services conducted by the Legion were both moving and full of Canadian commitment and passion; the inauguration of council was spectacular display of Town pride; the ground breaking of the new rec centre, with skydivers bringing the shovels was unique, special and done with tons of pizazz. It's amazing that there are so many people who care about this community and its residents. I have been fortunate enough to hear their thoughts, dreams and goals. With so much excitement facing the town the opening of the rec centre and town hall, the new Innisfil Lakers - I am somewhat saddened by the fact there are some things I will miss. After bringing all the coverage I could regarding the Innisfil Recreation Complex, the fact I will not be there when it opens tugs at my heart a bit. It's going to be awesome. As I am writing my final editorial for you, my faithful readers and friends, I am looking to my past as an amazing experience with even more amazing people. It is you who have kept me going, kept me on my toes, and kept my head on straight. Of course, I have to look to my future, as an editor in Leduc, Alberta - a community of around 18,000 who are anticipating the building of their new multi million dollar rec centre. And as I look ahead, I only have to think of the fantastic people I have met, the wonderful opportunities I have experienced, and the awesome community I am leaving behind that has provided me with the knowledge, strength and determination to move forward. Thank you, residents of the Town of Innisfil.
will see you in the future (and, this goes without saying for those who know me oh too well) in the arms of a man in a uniform - and yes, cowboys do count! |
