Numerous thefts of copper wire, hydro poles targeted

Essa Twp. - Nottawasaga OPP are investigating a rash of thefts of copper wire throughout Essa.

Staff at Hydro One report that between Aug. 17 and 29, there have been 17 known incidents where copper wire has been stolen.

Police suspect that thieves locate a hydro pole and using a sharp object such as an axe, cut four to six foot lengths of copper wire from utility poles.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or have any knowledge of them or see people not identified as Hydro One employees (clothing-vehicle) working at hydro poles to call the OPP at 905 729 4004 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 TIPS.
