South Simcoe Police News Fraud Over $5000 SSP have completed an investigation into a fraudulent mortgage scheme resulting in a total financial loss criminally in the area of $40,000, although total losses may be in the area of $100,000. The accused operates a law practise in Barrie and Innisfil. Through a business arrangement the accused was responsible for ensuring payment of the victim's mortgage payments on four rental properties two in the Innisfil, one in Barrie, and one in Scarborough. The mortgage payments were never made resulting in the properties being subjected to a power of sale. Through the months of December 2006 to April, the accused also fraudulently obtained rental payments from the tenants of these properties with the money never being paid to the property owner. The accused was involved in a fraudulent mortgage scheme in 2006 where he was charged with numerous Fraud related charges and he was released on a recognizance from Barrie Provincial Court with numerous conditions. During the most recent investigation, it was determined that the male had been in contact with an individual who the accused was not to be in communication with from the previous fraud scheme. Police have charged a 52 year old Innisfil male with Fraud Over $5000 and Failing to Comply with a Recognizance. The male is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing later this date. Dangerous Driving On Friday, Sept. 14 at 4:30 p.m., SSP responded to a fail to remain accident at a business on Lockhart Road in Innisfil. A pick up truck had driven into a store window in a strip plaza and the vehicle drove away westbound on Lockhart Road. The vehicle was located by police and the vehicle was observed to cross over the centre line on numerous occasions. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver attempted to drive around the police vehicles, but through a tandem stop the vehicle was eventually stopped on 10 Sideroad. The driver was arrested and transported to the police station where he provided breath samples close to 3 times above the legal limit. The accused was held in custody until sober. Police have charged a 39 year old Innisfil male with Impaired Driving, Over 80 mgs, Dangerous Driving, and Fail to Remain under the Highway Traffic Act. Possession On Saturday Sept. 15, at 1:10a.m. South Simcoe Police located a group of individuals causing a disturbance in the area of Holland St and Barrie St in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Police arrested a male for being intoxicated in a public place, and upon being searched a small quantity of marihuana was found on the male's person. The male was transported to the police station where he was held in custody until sober. Police have charged an 18 year old Bradford male with Possession of a Controlled Substance and he was also issued a Provincial Offences Ticket for being Intoxicated in a Public Place. |
